This week’s desktop gatefold is a lovely piece of relatively new design (2002) to go with a lovely album by the Kyoto Jazz Massive. Just in case you thought we were bogged down in the past. This record comes complete with obligatory Portuguese lyrics for that new bossa mood, and age of aquarius type titles such as ‘Mind Expansions’ and ‘Stargazer’. And you thought WE were stuck in the past. Hey, it’s not my fault that 12″ art is thin on the ground these days. This is a fabulous double disk pressing on extra thick audiophile vinyl from the folks over at Compost Records in Germany. Even the sleeve is extra thick. My fingers tell me 300gsm plus art board. Lovely. Convoluted sleeve credits read thusly: ‘Cover pictures are taken by courtesy of Kyoto Tower, Kyoto Japan, Graphic design by Andrew Arnold. Art & Photo produced by Sachi Sawada “moss” design unit. Art Direction by Kyoto Jazz Massive’, who are Shuya & Yoshihiro Okino. Phew.
